The General Assembly of the United Nations declares in 1992 3rd December as an International Day of persons with disabilities. It has been observed since then by the member-states and the international organizations. Its aim is to direct public attention towards the problems of people with disabilities, to motivate politicians and institutions to undertake actions that are more effective in order to guarantee their access to common architectural environment, to educative system, to the general labor market and to the process of relevant political decision-making processes.

The International Day of Persons with disabilities has been commemorated under a specific theme since 2002. The theme this year is “Building Back Better: toward a disability-inclusive, accessible and sustainable post COVID-19 World”.
